Moving and Handling

This training develops our staff’s knowledge, understanding and practical skills to safely carry out moving and handling activities, ensuring the safety, dignity and wellbeing of both the individuals we support and our staff.

Staff learn about relevant legislation, regulations and best practice guidance, including the importance of risk assessments, safe working procedures and recognising and reducing the risks associated with moving and handling people and objects.

Practical training focuses on the safe and appropriate use of moving and handling equipment, including hoists, slings and other mobility aids, alongside techniques that promote comfort, dignity, independence and the individual's active involvement wherever possible.

Staff are required to demonstrate their practical competence in relevant moving and handling techniques and equipment before undertaking these activities independently, with ongoing assessments and refresher training to maintain safe practice.

Through this training, we ensure our staff have the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide safe, effective and person-centred support, reducing the risk of injury while promoting the dignity, comfort, choice and independence of everyone we support.
