Medication Awareness and Administration
This training develops our staff’s knowledge, understanding and practical skills to safely support individuals with their medication, ensuring their health, safety and wellbeing remain a priority.
The training covers essential principles of medication management, including different types of medication, safe administration procedures, correct storage, accurate record keeping and recognising and reporting medication errors or potential side effects.
Staff learn how to safely support individuals with a range of medication types, including oral medicines, creams, ointments, patches and other prescribed treatments, in accordance with individual support plans, risk assessments and agreed procedures.
The training also emphasises the importance of obtaining consent, respecting individual choices, promoting independence and ensuring individuals are actively involved in managing their own medication wherever possible.
Staff are required to demonstrate their competence through appropriate assessments before undertaking medication administration responsibilities, with ongoing monitoring and refresher training to maintain safe and effective practice.
Through this training, we ensure our staff have the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide safe, responsible and person-centred medication support, promoting the dignity, independence, choice and wellbeing of everyone we support.
